Story & Timeline FAQ

Revelation picks up immediately after the events of Rebirth. Cloud and AVALANCHE race across Gaia aboard the Highwind to stop Sephiroth and Meteor, visiting iconic locations including Wutai, Rocket Town, Mideel, and the Northern Crater.

The Remake trilogy has significantly altered canon compared to the 1997 original. Aerith's fate, Zack's expanded role, and multiverse timelines remain the most searched topics. Hamaguchi confirmed that while player choices affect how events are perceived throughout the journey, Revelation has a single definitive ending — not multiple branching finales.

Wutai receives a major political storyline tied to Yuffie's homeland. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind join as fully playable party members with unique combat roles. Weapon battles — super-boss encounters from the original — return at planetary scale.

Does Revelation have multiple endings?

No. Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated the game has one definitive ending. Choices influence perception and events along the way, but the finale resolves into a singular conclusion.

What happened to Aerith in Rebirth?

Rebirth altered the timeline around Aerith significantly. Revelation continues that narrative thread. Avoid spoilers from leaked materials and wait for official chapter guides at launch.

Do I need to play Remake and Rebirth first?

Yes, strongly recommended. Revelation is the trilogy finale and assumes familiarity with Remake (Midgar) and Rebirth (open-world Gaia exploration). Save data bonuses reward returning players.

Does this game have redeem codes?

No. FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION is a single-player premium RPG, not a live-service or gacha title. There are no promo codes or Trello boards — those searches refer to unrelated mobile games.

Characters & Weapons

The core party returns: Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, and Yuffie. Revelation adds Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind as playable characters with distinct ability kits and FITS loadouts.

Vincent transforms between human and limit-break forms in combat, leveraging firearms and dark magic. Cid brings polearm aerial combos and support buffs tied to the Highwind narrative. Chadley returns aboard the airship with an expanded main-story role.

Weapon battles — enormous optional superbosses scattered across the planet — return as endgame challenges. Each Weapon demands specific builds, elemental exploitation, and stagger management. Full strategies will be added at launch.

Vincent Valentine

Gun-focused ranged DPS with transformation limits. English voice: Matthew Mercer (revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026).

Cid Highwind

Aerial polearm fighter and party support. Central to Highwind exploration sequences.

Sephiroth

Primary antagonist. English voice changes to Travis Willingham for Revelation (from Tyler Hoechlin in prior entries).

  • Cloud Strife — Balanced sword fighter, excels with Warrior and Samurai FITS
  • Tifa Lockhart — Combo-heavy striker, Martial Artist FITS specialist
  • Aerith Gainsborough — Magic support and healing, Black Mage / White Mage FITS
  • Barret Wallace — Ranged tank, Gunner FITS
  • Red XIII — Agile beast attacker
  • Yuffie Kisaragi — Ninja-style hybrid, central to Wutai arc

FITS System & Tier List

Pre-release tier rankings based on official gameplay demos. Will be updated with damage data at launch.

FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) is Revelation's new job-style system. Each character can equip up to four FITS outfits, each granting a unique moveset, stat profile, and L1/L2 abilities. All four FITS per character unlock early in the story.

FITS replace the traditional job system feel while keeping real-time action combat. Switching FITS mid-battle enables role adaptation — e.g., Cloud can shift from Warrior frontline to Black Mage spellcasting. Synergy combos between party members scale with FITS pairing.

Below is a preliminary tier list based on demo footage and director interviews. S-tier FITS show exceptional stagger damage and party synergy. Rankings will shift once full materia stacking and endgame gear are available.

Tier FITS / Role Best For Notes
SWarrior (Cloud)Boss staggerHighest single-target pressure in demos
SBlack Mage (Aerith)Elemental burstStrong ATB generation with magic chains
AMartial Artist (Tifa)Sustained DPSCombo scaling rewards skilled play
AGunner (Barret)Ranged / supportConsistent pressure at safe distance
BSamurai (Cloud)Counter playHigh skill ceiling, lower consistency
BWhite Mage (Aerith)Healing focusEssential for Weapon battles, lower DPS
When do FITS unlock?

All four FITS per character unlock early — within the first several hours. Hamaguchi emphasized players should experiment with every outfit before mid-game.

Can I switch FITS in combat?

Yes. FITS can be swapped during battle to adapt to enemy weaknesses and party synergy opportunities.

Highwind & World Map

Planet-scale exploration via the airship Highwind is Revelation's defining gameplay pillar. The Highwind unlocks roughly 5–6 hours into the campaign — far earlier than typical endgame airship access in JRPGs — and lets you fly to almost anywhere on Gaia.

Parachute drops enable on-foot exploration of regions unreachable by landing zones. World Intel-style discovery systems from Rebirth evolve further, rewarding thorough exploration with materia, gear, and side quests tied to each region.

Key regions confirmed for Revelation include Wutai (Yuffie's homeland with a political arc), Rocket Town (Cid's domain), Mideel, and the Northern Crater approach. Exploration order matters for missable side content — full route guides coming at launch.

Early Airship Access

Highwind available ~5–6 hours in. Fly almost anywhere on the planet from mid-game onward.

Parachute Drops

Descend into remote areas for secrets, materia caches, and optional bosses.

World Intel

Evolving discovery system tracks collectibles, intel reports, and region completion.

  • Wutai — Yuffie homeland, expanded political storyline
  • Rocket Town — Cid's workshop and Cid-centric quests
  • Mideel — Tropical settlement with lore ties to the Lifestream
  • Northern Crater — Final approach to Sephiroth confrontation
  • Weapon spawn points — Planetary superboss locations (details at launch)

Controls

Based on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth layouts. Revelation controls will be confirmed at launch.

Revelation uses the same action-combat foundation as Rebirth: real-time attacks, dodge, block, ATB abilities, and party synergy commands. Below are reference keybindings from Rebirth on each platform. We will update this section on day one if Square Enix changes any mappings.

All platforms support remappable controls on PC. Switch 2 handheld and docked modes use identical layouts. Accessibility options from Rebirth — including difficulty modes and combat assistance — are expected to return.

Walkthrough

Full chapter-by-chapter walkthrough launches with the game in Spring 2027.

This section will host a complete main-story walkthrough with chapter breakdowns, boss strategies inline, and missable-content callouts. Given Revelation's open Highwind structure, guides will include both critical-path progression and recommended exploration order.

Expected structure: Act I (Highwind unlock and initial Gaia tour), Act II (Wutai arc and mid-game Weapons), Act III (Northern Crater approach and finale). Each act will list minimum level recommendations, FITS loadout suggestions, and side-quest priority.

Bookmark this page — we will publish walkthrough content within 24 hours of the global launch.

  • Chapter 1–5 guides — Coming Spring 2027
  • Wutai arc walkthrough — Coming Spring 2027
  • Northern Crater finale — Coming Spring 2027

Items, Weapons & Materia

Database populated at launch. Below is a framework of expected categories.

Revelation inherits and expands Rebirth's equipment systems: character-unique weapons with ability upgrades, armor with linked materia slots, and accessory items for stat boosts and resistances.

Materia returns as the core customization layer — Magic, Command, Support, and Summon types. FITS interact with materia loadouts: certain outfits amplify specific materia effects. Weapon upgrade paths branch based on playstyle (ATB generation vs. raw damage vs. stagger).

Our database will catalog every weapon, armor piece, accessory, and materia with location, stats, and best-in-slot recommendations per character.

Weapons

Per-character unique weapons with upgrade branches. Vincent firearms and Cid polearms added.

Materia

Magic, Command, Support, Summon. Synergy with FITS loadouts.

Accessories

Stat boosts, elemental resistances, and ATB modifiers.

Boss Strategies

Detailed boss guides added at launch.

Revelation features story bosses, optional arena encounters, and returning Weapon superbosses at planetary scale. Each boss demands stagger management, elemental exploitation, and FITS-specific strategies.

Weapon battles are expected to be the hardest optional content — multi-phase fights requiring optimized party loadouts, limit breaks, and consumable buffs. We will publish phase-by-phase guides with recommended levels and gear checks.

Miniboss encounters in Wutai and the Northern Crater region will have dedicated strategy pages linked from the walkthrough.

  • Weapon superboss guides — Coming Spring 2027
  • Optional arena bosses — Coming Spring 2027

Minigames Guide

Minigames were the most criticized aspect of Rebirth due to volume and mandatory gating. Director Hamaguchi acknowledged the feedback and confirmed Revelation keeps minigames but adds skip options and difficulty settings for most activities.

Queen's Blood, the card game introduced in Rebirth, returns with expanded rules. Snowboarding, chocobo races, and classic FF7 minigame homages are expected. Each minigame will have a dedicated guide with rewards, skip conditions, and trophy ties.

We will clearly mark which minigames are required for story progression vs. optional, so you can plan your playthrough efficiently.

Can I skip minigames in Revelation?

Hamaguchi confirmed improved skip and difficulty options for most minigames. Exact scope will be verified at launch.

Is Queen's Blood returning?

Yes. Queen's Blood returns with expanded rules. Strategy guides will be published at launch.

Collectibles & Trophies

100% completion checklist launches with the game.

Revelation is expected to feature a platinum trophy on PlayStation, achievements on Xbox/PC, and extensive collectible tracking via the World Intel system. Rebirth's completion checklist covered 200+ items across regions — Revelation's planet-scale map likely exceeds this.

Our 100% guide will include: all World Intel reports, materia locations, weapon upgrades, FITS unlock verification, minigame completions, and Weapon defeat tracking. A missable-content warnings section will flag point-of-no-return moments.

Save data bonuses (Chocobo & Moogle Materia from Intergrade, Phoenix Materia from Rebirth) give returning players a head start but are not required for platinum.

Platinum Trophy

Full checklist with estimated 80–120 hours for 100% completion (based on Rebirth scope).

Missables

Point-of-no-return warnings in walkthrough and dedicated missable tracker.

World Intel

Region-by-region completion percentages and collectible maps.
